PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound having good compatibility with another resin, etc., by converting hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) partially into an adduct with a specific polyol, converting the remaining isocyanate groups into isocyanaurate groups, and polymerizing the resultant adduct.
CONSTITUTION: A polyol, e.g. 1,3-butanediol, is added to a polyol having a molecular weight of 50W3,000 and a functionality of 2W3 is added to hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), and reacted at 70W90°C for about 2hr to participate 15% or less total isocyanate groups in the HDI in the formation of a polyol adduct. A potassium or sodium salt of a specific fatty acid, e.g. potassium propionate, in an amount of 0.001W0.15wt% as a catalyst and a phenolic hydroxy compound, e.g. phenol, in an amount of 0.5wt% or less as a co-catalyst are added to the resultant adduct. The mixture is then reacted at 35W70°C so that 60wt% or less total isocyanate groups may be converted into isocyanurate groups and polymerized, and a strong acid, e.g. phosphoric acid, is then added to stop the reaction.
