Title:
PREPARATION OF ALKYL CARBONATE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3442094
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To advantageously produce dialkyl carbonate without decreasing the activity of a catalyst by adding and allowing a halogeno acid to react with a reaction system consisting of CO, O2 and alcohol as the starting material and a cuprous halide as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A cuprous halide as a carbonylation catalyst is dispersed in an alcohol, into which a gas mixture of carbon monoxide and oxygen is introduced and further a halogeno acid is added to carry out the reaction. The produced dialkyl carbonate is recovered. In this method, copper chloride is preferably used as the catalyst, and methanol or ethanol is preferable as the alcohol. Hydrochloric acid is preferable as the halogeno acid. By this method, the catalyst system, possible dialkyl carbonate in a variable amt. and water can be recirculated to the carbonylation reaction. This method is suitable especially for the production of dimethyl carbonate and shows high selectivity and productivity.
