Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a process for preparing an alkylthio-substituted carboxylic acid, arlthio-substituted carboxylic acid, a corresponding alkylthio-substituted thioester and arylthio-substituted thioester.
CONSTITUTION: This process comprises reacting a mercaptan with a lactone in the presence of an acidic catalyst at a temperature of about 100°C to about 350°C. The process for preparing the thio-substituted carboxylic acids and thio- substituted thioesters may be either continuous process or batch process.
