PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance, by cultivating a microorganism, belonging to the genus Streptomyces, and having the charcteristics to be identified as Streptomyces mojinensis and the ability to produce an antibiotic, and producing and accumulating a recoverable amount of the antibiotic in the culture.

CONSTITUTION: A microorganism, e.g. Streptomyces mojinensis (FERM-P No. 5467), belonging to the genus Streptomyces, and having the ability to produce an antibiotic of the formula or a variant strain thereof is cultivated in a culture medium used for the conventional cultivation of actinomyces by the submerged spinner culture method to produce a recoverable amount of the antibiotic in the culture, and the antibiotic is then recovered. The recovering step is preferably carried out at a low temperature at about a neutral pH. After removing the microbial cell, the antibiotic is isolated and purified by using an adsorbent, an ion exchanger, the gel filtration method, etc.
