PURPOSE: To prepare an emulsion giving an ethylene-rich film having excellent feeling, by adding an acrylic acid ester to an aqueous emulsion of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, and polymerizing in the presence of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator.

CONSTITUTION: An aqueous emulsion of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing about 5W30wt% of ethylene, is prepared by copolymerizing vinyl acetate and ethylene. The emulsion is mixed with about 10W40pts.wt., based on 100pts.wt. of the solid content of the aqueous emulsion, of an acrylic acid ester of formula CH2CHCOOR (R is ≥2C alkyl), and polymerized in the presence of a water- soluble radical polymerization initiator. A part of the vinyl acetate may be replaced by a vinyl monomer having a functional group.

EFFECT: The rate of polymerization is high, and the stability of the aqueous emulsion is also good.
