Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound at a high purity by reacting an aromatic monohydroxy compound with phosgene or a chloroformate of an aromatic monohydroxy compound in the presence of an aluminum oxide.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic monohydroxy compound is reacted with phosgene or a chloroformate of an aromatic monohydroxy compound in the presence of one or more aluminum oxides as a heterogeneous catalyst under a pressure of 0.2-20 bar at 50-350°C to obtain a carbonate containing an aromatic ester group. The aromatic monohydroxy compound and phosgene are reacted in a mole ratio of (0.5-8):1, and the aromatic monohydroxy compound and the chloroformate in a mole ratio of (0.25-4):1. The objective compound is useful in the preparation of a polycarbonate or a phenylurethane by the melt transesterification method and as an intermediate of an active substance in the pharmaceutical and the plant protection fields.
