Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare a synthetic lubricant base stocks in a good yield by oligomerizing a long-chain olefin by using a specified acidic calcium montmorillonite clay catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: In the method for preparing oligomers or co-oligomers of an olefin compsn. comprizing a 10-24C linear olefin by bringing the olefin compsn. into contact with a catalyst, the catalyst is characterized by an acidic calcium montmorillonite clay which contains up to 20 wt.% water and exhibits residual acidity of upto 30 mgKOH/g and has a surface area of at least 300 m2/g.
