Abstract:
To provide a novel method for preparing caprolactam from 6-aminocaproic acid (hereafter called 6-ACA) obtained in a biochemical process, and in particular such a method that allows a satisfactory caprolactam yield.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for preparing caprolactam comprising recovering a mixture containing 6-aminocaproic acid from culture medium comprising biomass, and thereafter cyclizing the 6-aminocaproic acid in the presence of superheated steam, thereby forming caprolactam, where the weight ratio of carbohydrate to 6-aminocaproic acid in the mixture is 0.03 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
