PURPOSE: To obtain a cast polyamide having increased stiffness by mixing and polymerizing two specific lactam melts.
CONSTITUTION: A lactam melt, 1-30 wt.% polymer having a styrene unit content of 91 wt.%, 5-25 wt.% glass fibers, 0-15 wt.% chalk and/or kaolin, 0.15-1 wt.% catalyst dissolved in up to 10 times as much caprolactam, and 0-25 wt.% additives, such as a thixotropic agent, an impact modifier, a colorant, a lubricant, and a stabilizer, are mixed at 80-160°C to give a mixture (A). A lactam melt, 1-30 wt.% polymer having a styrene unit content of 91 wt.% or higher, 5-25 wt.% glass fibers, 0-15 wt.% chalk and/or kaolin, 0.5-3 wt.% activator, and 0-15 wt.% additives are mixed to give a mixture (B). The same amts. of components A and B are mixed and the resultant mixture is polymerized at 100-160°C.
