PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound by using a specific compound which is a crystalline material at normal temperature and stable to purification, drying and storage for a long period, as a starting raw material, converting the Br atom of the material to Li, and bonding a polyprenyl group and an allyl group derivative to the resultant compound.
CONSTITUTION: The coenzyme Q of formula IV is prepared by the reaction of the compound of formulaIor formula II (n is 0W11; X is halogen; A and B are H or together form a bond) with the compound of formula III. The above reaction is carried out by converting the compound of formula III which can be derived easily from 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-6-bromo-1,4-hydroquinone and 2,3- dihydrofuran to the compound of formula V with alkyllithium, reacting the compound of formula V with the compound of formulaIor formula II in the presence of cuprous halide, and hydrolyzing and oxidizing the reaction product.
USE: Especially coenzyme Q10 which is a compound of formulaIwherein n is 9 and A and B form a bond, participates in the elctron transfer system in the living body, and exhibits pharmacological effect.
