PURPOSE: To obtain the titled concentrate suitable for enriching a food with vitamin K, by using deodorized scum of vegetable oil as the natural material rich in vitamin K, subjecting the material to molecular distillation, and purifying the obtained fraction by column chromatography.
CONSTITUTION: A vegetable oil containing vitamin K, especially the deodorized distillate produced as a by-product of the purification process of a vegetable oil or soybean oil, is subjected to molecular distillation to remove the neutral fat, free fatty acid, pigment, and odor component existing in the scum. The obtained fraction is purified by column chromatography to obtain concentrated natural vitamin K. The yield can be further improved by carrying out the molecular distillation in two stages. As an alternative method, the concentrated vitamin K can be produced by removing sterol from the fraction obtained by the molecular distillation of the deodorized scum.
USE: Processed powdery milk, special milk for medical use, and natural vitamin K enriching agent to be administered to a nursing woman.
