Abstract:
PURPOSE: To swell alginate particles in a gastric fluid by an improvement in a hydrating environment, form a thicker and more uniform layer for diffusing an active ingredient and thereby decrease the release rate. CONSTITUTION: A salt of an antacid compound sodium and magnesium ion, e.g. magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium trisilicate, magnesium phosphate and trisodium phosphate is mixed with a water-soluble alginate, e.g. sodium alginate, potassium alginate or magnesium alginate to produce a tablet improved in a hydrating environment of the alginate in a release controlling tablet containing an active ingredient.
