Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain cycloalkanols in a high selectivity while inhibiting by- products and waste water by hydrolysis of cycloalkyl 1-4C fatty acid esters.
CONSTITUTION: Cycloalkyl 1-4C fatty acid esters and water are reacted with each other at a temperature of 30-250°C to obtain a reaction mixture comprising cycloalkyl 1-4C fatty acid esters, cycloalkanol, 1-4C fatty acid and water. Then, the mixture is separated at a temperature of 0-200°C into the upper phase comprising cycloalkanol and cycloalkyl 1-4C fatty acid esters, and the bottom phase comprising water and 1-4C fatty acid. The cycloalkanol obtained from the upper phase is separated by distillation, and unconverted cycloalkyl 1-4C fatty acid esters are recycled to the first process. Cycloalkanol and fatty acids are obtd. in a high selectivity, and cycloalkene is hardly formed. Acid is reproduced easily and the amount of waste water under specific demand can be minimized.
