PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a synthetic intermediate of polysiloxane which is an additive for paint, lubricant, etc., in high efficiency, by the two-stage alkylation of dichlorosilane with an α-olefin in the presence of a specific catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Dichlorosilane is converted to a monoalkyl dichlorosilane by reacting with an α-olefin in the presence of a homogeneous-phase VIII-group transition metal-phosphine complex catalyst e.g. a compound of formula I, II or III, at room temperature to 200°C for 0.1W60 hours. The reaction product is made to react with an α-olefin which may be the same or different from the above α-olefin, in the presence of a chloroplatinic acid catalyst at room temperature to 100°C for 0.1W20 hours, to obtain the objective dialkyl dichlorosilane. The α-olefin is preferably the one having a carbon number of ≤20.
