PURPOSE: To obtain the titled recording material enhanced in preservability and head matching property, by a method wherein both color developing components of a diazo compound and a coupler are separated into two adjacent layers and different thermoplastic substances are contained in respective layers.
CONSTITUTION: A coating liquid containing either one of components of a diazo compound and a coupler, a water insoluble binder and a thermoplastic substance shown by formula R1-CONH-R2 [wherein one of R1 and R2 is CnH2n+1 (n= 10W22) and the other thereof is H, CmH2m+1 or CmH2mOH(m=1W22)] is applied to a support and dried to obtain a coating which is, in turn, melted under heating and solidified to form a first layer. In the next step, a coating liquid containing the other component among the aforementioned diazo compound and the coupler and a thermoplastic substance shown by formula R3-COO-R4 (wherein one of R3 and R4 is an aromatic group and the other thereof H, or an aliphatic group) or formula R'3-CONH-R'4 (wherein one of R'3 and R'4 is an aromatic group or an alicyclic group and the other thereof is CnH2n+1) is applied to said first layer and dried to obtain a second layer.
