PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compd. effectively, in high selectivity, high yield and useful for remedies of heart failure, etc., etc., by reacting, each specified, a mineral acid-addition salt of a dopamine compd. with a ketone under the specified condition.

CONSTITUTION: A mineral acid-addition salt of the dopamine of formula I (wherein R is H or methyl) is reacted with a ketone of formula II ((n) is 1 or 2) under the influence of a catalytic amount of a base such as sodium hydroxide, etc., and in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenation catalyst such as platinum, etc., after which the pH of the reaction mixture is adjusted to about 6 at max. and the product is isolated to obtain the objective acid addition compd. of formula III.
