Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a raw material of medicines, etc., by reacting exo-8-iodomethyl-endo-tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]decane (novel compound) in an inert solvent having high transparency to light, in the presence of metallic zinc having specific shape.

CONSTITUTION: The objective compound II ia prepared by irradiating exo-8-iodomethyl-endo-tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]decane with light, in an inert solvent such as n- pentane, n-hexane or n-heptane, in the presence of mossy zinc metal, at 0W100°C, pref. 10W50°C, for ten-odd hours. The compound I, which is a novel compound, can be prepared, e.g. by reacting exo-5-tosyloxymethyl-endo-tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]decane with sodium iodide.
