Title:
PREPARATION OF EPOXY CATIONIC RESIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2602424
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an epoxy cationic resin which has excellent castability, thick film deposition, softness and other properties, is suitable for cathodic electrodepositable coating compsns. and has a specified charge density by reacting a specified epoxy resin compsn. with a nucleophilic reagent, adding an org. acid and water in the course of the reaction.
SOLUTION: A blend comprising: (A) an epoxy resin (A1) obtd. from a polyether polyol diglycidyl ether (G1) with an average epoxy equivalent (Eq) of 350 to 5000, an epoxy resin (A2) obtd. from the partially capped G1 with an Eq of 300 to 5000, or a combination (A3) of A1 with A2; and (B) an epoxy resin different from the components A1 and A2 is prepd. as an epoxy resin compsn. having terminal oxirane groups. In the course of the preparation of this compsn., a nucleophilic reagent is reacted with the compsn. to convert the oxirane group to a cationic group, and, during the conversion, an org. acid and water are added to obtain the epoxy cationic resin having a charge density of 0.2 to 0.6 milliequiavalent of charge per g of resin.
