Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare formed products, e.g. fibers, etc., having excellent qualities while suppressing the twisting and surging of the extruded melt, by compouding a specific melt-formable vinyl alcohol copolymer with a rapidly reacting melt tension improver.

CONSTITUTION: A melt-formable vinyl alcohol copolymer having a melt tension of≤0.2g at a temperature higher than the melting point by 20° (e.g. copolymer with ethylenesulfonic acid, etc.), is mixed with 0.02W2 wt.% of a rapidly reacting melt tension improver (pref. boric acid, etc.) as powder, etc. to give a composition having a melt tension of 0.2W2g, and melt formed (pref. extruded) to fibers, etc., preferably after pelletization. The melt tension can be further improved by the melt- mixing in pelletizing.
