PURPOSE: To obtain a friction material having improved characteristics with reduced amounts of a yarn and roving, by distributing the yarn or roving under tension uniformly, and hot-pressing and molding the yarn or roving with other raw materials.

CONSTITUTION: A yarn or roving is distributed almost uniformly under tension, hot-pressed and molded with other raw materials to give the aimed friction material, preferably a clutch facing. Preferably, the yarn or roving is almost uniformly distributed around almost the whole inner or outer periphery of the clutch facing, and two or more yarns or rovings having different coefficients of friction are used as the yarn or roving.
