PURPOSE: To reduce the variance of a gas sensitive characteristic, by using a liquid which is not difficult to vaporize and does not left a residue which exerts a bad influence after calcination, for mixing the pulverized starting materials.
CONSTITUTION: Wet process mixing is carried out by using e.g. indium oxide, tin oxide or palladium oxide as the pulverized starting materials. A liquid which is not difficult to vaporize and not leaving a residue after calcination exerts a bad influence upon a characteristic of an element or a liquid does not leaves completely by burning or vaporization at the time of calcination if possible and also, a liquid being in no danger of exerting a bad influence by reacting with the pulverized starting materials, is used for the liquid using in this case. For example, an organic liquid such as ethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol or methyl cellulose, is used for said liquid. A gas detection element is made by forming the pulverized starting materials mixed by wet process and fitting with a heater after calcination. This element has a characteristic having less variance.
