PURPOSE: To obtain glass laser at low temperature, by adding a laser luminescent substance to a mixed solution comprising a metal alcoholate, an organic solvent and water as main components, casting it into a mold, gelatinizing the metal alcoholate.
CONSTITUTION: A laser luminescent substance such as rare earth element ion or organic dyestuff is added to a mixed solution comprising one or more metal alcoholates hydrolyzable and capable of being gelatinized, water, and an organic solvent as main components. The mixed solution is blended with an acid or a base if necessary, and, in order to control refractive index and coefficient of expansion of a laser rod, the solution is blended with a metal alcoholate different from the metal alcoholate of the main component, if necessary. Tetraethoxysilane, or tetramethoxysilane is used as the metal alcoholate. Nd, etc. is used as the rare earth element, and laser dyestuffs including rhodamine 60 are used as the dyestuff.
