Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a transparent methacrylic resin, having improved impact and weather resistance, and used for fields of glazing materials and interiors, etc., by casting a polymerizable syrup containing a specific amount of a reactive acrylic elastomer, and polymerizing the syrup.

CONSTITUTION: A polymerizable syrup containing 0.5W50wt% reactive acrylic elastomer is cast and polymerized usually in the presence of 0.001W2wt%, based on the polymerizable syrup, curing agent, e.g. 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile, to give the aimed resin. A reaction product obtained by reacting an acrylic elastomer containing free carboxyl groups with an unsaturated aziridine compound having one aziridine group and one or more radically reactive unsaturated groups in one molecule is preferred for the above-mentioned reactive acrylic elastomer.
