PURPOSE: To collect L-serine in high yield, by cultivating a variant having resistance to chloroacetylserine, carbobenzyloxyserine, and glycine hydroxamate in a glycine-containing medium.
CONSTITUTION: A variant, e.g., Pseudomonas rhodomethylofaciens AJ11503, etc., belonging to the genus Pseudomonas, having resistance to chloroacetylserine, or carbobenzyloxyserine, or glycine hydroxamate, posessing the competence to produce L-serine from glycine, is cultivated. A medium consisting of a carbon source, e.g., methanol, etc., nitrogen source, inorganic ion, etc. and glycine is used, and the cultivation is carried out in pH 5W9 at 25W37°C aerobically for 2W8 days. L-serine is recovered from the culture solution by ion exchange resin method, etc.
