Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a large particle plastic aqueous dispersion by the polymerization in the presence of an anionic emulsifier, a non-ionic water soluble polymerization auxiliary to be added prior to the polymerization, a water soluble alkali and/or an ammonium salt as the polymerization initiator.
CONSTITUTION: In carrying out the emulsion polymerization of radical polymerizable monomers in an aqueous phase as the dispersion medium, in the presence of 0.02-4 pts.wt. (hereinafter 'pts.'), on the basis of 100 pts. monomers, anionic emulsifier, 0.0001-0.05 pt. branched polyethylene oxide having an AB (wherein A is a 15-70°C branched hydrophobic residue; and B is a hydrophilic residue having branched, not less than 50 ethylene oxide units)-block structure as the polymerization auxiliary to be added prior to the initiation of polymerization, an alkali and/or ammonium as the polymerization initiator in such an amount that 1-250 mmol, per 1l of water, alkali and/or ammonium ion not bonded to the emulsifier is present and a conventional polymerization auxiliary, the emulsion polymeri-zation is carried out to prepare a large particle plastic aqueous dispersion.
