PURPOSE: To efficiently prepare hydrogen and light oil, by catalytically cracking a sulfur-contg. heavy oil by use of a catalyst contg. at least 30% iron in the form of iron oxide at a plant consisting of the combination of a regeneration tower, cracking tower and calcining furnace.
CONSTITUTION: The first step: in a rengeneration tower 1, an oxidized catalyst supplied through a return pipe 5 and coated with a sulfur-contg. coke is contacted with an oxygen-contg. gas 4 at 750W950°C, converting the catalyst into the reduced state and a sulfur compd. in the coke into iron sulfide, and then introduced through a transfer pipe 7 to a cracking tower 2. The second step: in the cracking tower 2, surfur-contg. heavy oil 9 and steam 8 are contacted with the reduced catalyst at 500W800°C, and the produced light oil and hydrogen are recovered from exhaust gas 1 and most of the oxidized catalyst coated with the sulfur-contg. coke is fed to the regeneration tower 1. The third step: said catalyst is partially introduced through a transfer pipe 11 to a calcining tower 3 and contacted with an oxygen-contg. gas 12 to decompose the iron sulfide. Evolved SOx is recovered from the exhaust gas 12 and the catalyst is returned to the cracking tower 2.
