Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enable the preparation of a linear alternating polymer having a high bulk density by bringing monomers into contact with a catalyst in a specific system and applying a high shear force to polymer particles dispersed in a suspension present in a mechanical containing zone.
CONSTITUTION: In preparing a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and one or more ethylenically unsaturated compunds by bringing monomers into contact with a catalyst in a diluent capable of dissolving the catalyst and, at the same time, forming a suspension of the polymer to be formed under heating and pressure, a polymer is prepared by bringing the monomers into contact with the catalyst in a system comprising at least one reactor and at least one mechanical contacting zone and the volume of the suspension present in this contacting zone being smaller than that present in the reactor and passing the suspension through the mechanical contacting zone or applying a high shear force to polymer particles dispersed in the suspension present in the mechanical contacting zone.
