PURPOSE: To prepare a magnetic pigment useful as a coloring agent and a magnetizing agent, by suspending a pigment in an aqueous solution of a specific metal salt, adding the suspension to an alkaline aqueous solution, and separating the metal oxide precipitated together with the suspended pigment.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A pigment such as Permanent Orange HL is suspended in (B) an aqueous solution of (a) a divalent iron salt, Ni salt, and/or Co salt such as ferrous sulfate and (b) a trivalent metal salt capable of forming a double salt with the component (a), e.g. aluminum sulfate, or (c) an aqueous solution of (c) a trivalent iron salt, Ni salt and/or Co salt such as ferric sulfate and (d) a divalent metal salt capable of forming a double salt with the component (c), e.g. chromium sulfate. The suspension is added slowly to an alkaline aqueous solution to precipitate the formed metal oxide together with the suspended pigment, and the coprecipitate is filtered, washed with water, and dried to obtain the objective pigment.
USE: Coloring agent for an electronic copier, facsimile, electrostatic coating, etc.
