Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for preparing a highly pure metal salt of a fatty acid with a simple process.

CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing the metal salt of a fatty acid is composed of subjecting a fatty acid to saponification reaction with alkali hydroxide and then, reacting the resultant alkali salt of the fatty acid with an acidic metal salt to carry out double decomposition, the alkali hydroxide and the acidic metal salt are alternately added to the reaction system for plural times and the saponification reaction and the double decomposition reaction are alternately performed for plural times at 60-100°C so as to reduce the quantity of the unreacted fatty acid. Since this process is easily simplified, the cost down can be attained and further, as the obtained metal salts of fatty acids are highly pure, they can be used as photo-sensitizers for photo-degradable plastics.
