Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for preparing azo compound useful as dye, pigment, etc. or a raw material for preparing medicines and agricultural chemicals economically and advantageously in good yield, by diazotizing anisidine with a nitrogen oxide having a specific N/O atomic ratio in sulfuric acid solvent.

CONSTITUTION: Anisidine is diazotized with nitrogen oxide in an acid solvent at -10W10°C, preferably -5W3°C. In said reaction, sulfuric acid at 0.5W2.0, preferably 0.55W1.0, molar ratio to anisidine is used as an acid constituting acid solvent, and a mixture of nitrogen oxide having 0.55W0.85 nitrogen atom/oxygen atom ratio is used as a nitrogen oxide. The unreacted nitrogenoxide-containing gas generated in the diazotization reaction can be reused.
