PURPOSE: To obtain nitride and carbide having high crystallinity in high yield by introducing a polymerizable monomer between crystal layers of a natural mineral or an inorg. compd. having a stratified structure, synthesizing an interlayer compd. by polymerizing the monomer, then calcining the compd. in N2, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A polar substance (e.g. butylamine, benzylamine, etc.) is inserted between crystal layers of a natural mineral or inorg. compd. having a stratified structure such as montmorillonite, kaolinite, zeolite, etc. to expand the distance of the crystal layer. Then, a polymerizable monomer (e.g. styrene, acrylonitrile), or prepolymer (e.g. urea resin, phenol resin), etc., is intercalated in the crystal layers, and an interlayer compd. is synthesized by polymerizing or condensing the intercalated substance using a radical initiator, which is then calcined at 1,100W1,700°C in N2 or reducing atmosphere. Thus, nitride and/or carbide are/is prepd.
