NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formulas IWIII (n is an integer 2W22; R1 is lower alkyl; R2WR4 are H, lower alkyl or acyl; X is H or OH or NH2 which may have a protecting group; m is an integer 11W22).
EXAMPLE: 6-(13-Hydroxytridecyl)-2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone.
USE: (a) A physiological bioresistance controlling agent, especially an immunity enhancer, and additionally a smooth muscle relaxant. (b) An improver for myocarditic and cerebral tissual disorders or its intermediate.
PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula IV is condensed with a compound expressed by formula V (Z is halogen) etc., to prepare the compound expressed by formula I, which is reduced to form the compound expressed by formula III, etc., and the resultant compound is oxidized, to give the compound expressed by formula II, etc. The compound expressed by formula I is useful as the medicine mentioned in (a) and an intermediate for the compounds expressed by formulas II and III. The compounds expressed by formulas II and III are useful as the medicine mentioned in (b).
