PURPOSE: In preparing the titled substance from an aliphatic alcohol, CO and molecular oxygen, to use a catalyst consisting of Pd metal, mixture of copper compound other than copper halide and an elemental halogen or hydrohalogenic acid, and a nitrogen compound.
CONSTITUTION: An aliphatic alcohol is reacted with CO and molecular oxygen in the presence of a catalyst consisting of Pd metal, mixture of copper compound (other than copper halide) and an elemental halogen or a hydrohalogenic acid, and a nitrogen compound (nitric acid, nitrogen oxide, or an ester of nitrous acid) under heating and pressure, to give the titled substance. Pd is supported by alumina, etc. and its amount is 0.01W2mg atom based on 100ml raw material alcohol in use. The amount of the copper compound is 0.1W30mol based on 1g atom Pd, the amount of the nitrogen compound is 1W1,000mol, and the amount of the halogen is an amount to give a ratio of gram atom shown by the formula 0.1<X/Cu (or Pd) ≤2 in use.
EFFECT: Exhibiting high formation rate, small amount of by-product, and high selectivity.
