Title:
PREPARATION OF PALE ANIONIC SURFACTANT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3429653
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and inexpensively obtain a pale aqueous solution of a surfactant by sulfating a higher alcohol or its alkylene oxide adduct, neutralizing and bleaching, simultaneously with or after neutralization, an aqueous solution or slurry of an anionic surfactant with a reducing agent and subsequently bleaching it with an oxidizing agent.
SOLUTION: A higher alcohol or its alkylene oxide adduct represented by the formula: RO(AO)nH is sulfated with sulfur trioxide or chlorosulfonic acid to give a sulfuric ester, which is subsequently neutralized with potassium hydroxide or the like. Simultaneously with or after neutralization, a reducing agent such as sulfur dioxide, sodium bisulfate or the like is added to an aqueous solution or slurry of an anionic surfactant in an amount of 0.001-1 wt.% based on effective ingredients thereof to bleach the surfactant at a pH of up to 10 and at 20-90°C and subsequently 0.001-1 wt.% of an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide or the like is added thereby bleaching it to obtain an anionic surfactant. In the formula, R is a 8-20C alkyl group; A is a 2-3C alkylene group; and (n) is the number of moles of the added alkylene oxide, 0-10.
