Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare liquid polybutenes useful as grease, adhesive, wax, etc., having a desired molecular weight, easily, by controlling the concentration of isobutene in the reaction mixture within specific range.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polybutene having an average molecular weight of 300W2,000, is prepared by polymerizing a C4 fraction composed of isobutene, n-butene, and butanes, in the presence of a catalyst comprising ethyl aluminum sesquichloride, etc., pref. at 38W80°C and under a pressure of ≥ 3kg/cm2G while controlling the concentration of isobutene in the reaction system between 95 and 10 wt%.
