PURPOSE: To obtain a uniformly-sized polymeric particle which is useful for pharmaceutical dispersed media, carrier particles for electrophotographic industries or the like by polymerizing, under a specific condition, monomer droplets formed in a continuous aqueous phase containing a specific particulate suspension stabilizer.
CONSTITUTION: A suspension of ethylenically unsaturated monomer droplets is formed in a continuous aqueous phase containing an effective amount of a particulate suspension stabilizer (colloidal silica or the like) to limit the coalescence of monomer droplets within an average particle diameter range of 200-1,000 μm preferably 300-900 μm. After adding a water soluble protective colloid (PVA or the like) to the aqueous phase, the polymer droplets are polymerized to yield fine polymeric particles having a uniform size distribution and an average particle diameter of about 200 about 1,000 μm.
