Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily and efficiently produce the subject compd. by allowing amines corresponding to the diphenyl methane series to react with a proper excess amt. of dialkyl carbonates in the presence of a catalyst and only cooling the product to crystallize.

CONSTITUTION: Amines corresponding to the diphenyl methane series are allowed to react with a proper excess amt. of dialkyl carbonates in the presence of a catalyst to obtain poly(O-alkylurethan) monomers and/or polymers of the diphenylmethane series, which are then cooled to be crystallized. By using a proper excess amt. of dialkyl carbonates, the product can be isolated into a highly pure form by cooling. As for the amines as the source material, 4,4'- diaminodiphenylmethane, condensate of aniline with formaldehyde, etc., are used. As for the catalyst, a metal compd. selected from zinc, lead and tin can be used. This method is suitable for the production of poly(O-alkylurethane) monomers and polymers of the diphenylmethane series.
