Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a porous chitinous material with a three-dimensional network of interconnected pores and suitable for a filter medium, etc., by lyophilizing an aq. acidic soln. of an N-deacetylated chitin, converting the produced porous body into chitin and drying it. CONSTITUTION:An N-deacetylated chitin is prepd. by treating chitin separated and purified from shrimps, crabs, etc., with a conc. alkali and thereby deacetylating it. The product is dissolved in an aq. acidic soln. (e.g. aq. acetic acid soln.) and the obtd. soln. is lyophilized to form a porous body with a complex three-dimensional network of interconnected pores. This porous body is connected into chitin by treating with an acylating agent contg. an org. acid anhydride (e.g. acetic anhydride). The obtd, porous chitin is dried to obtain a porous chitinous material useful for an enzyme-immobilizing base, a hemostatic agent, etc.
