PURPOSE: To obtain powdery or granular α-olefinic sulfonate efficiently, by heating and spraying slurry of an α-olefinic sulfonate containing a fixed amount of solid content in a specific temperature range, cooling it to a given temperature.
CONSTITUTION: Slurry of 10W20C α-olefinic sulfonate (AOS salt) having 70W 85wt% solid content is transported from the slurry storage tank 11 by the pump 12 to the slurry heater 13, where it is heated to ≥ the boiling point of a solvent contained in the slurry at atmospheric pressure and ≤200°C and the slurry is sprayed so that the solvent is removed, the prepared powdery or granular material is cooled in the cooling column 15 to ≤50°C, and collected at the bottom of the column 15. Improved powdery or granular AOS salt can be obtained without passing it through a drying operation by this process, so heat energy can be reduced.
