PURPOSE: To obtain the subject material by forming a saturated alcohol by hydroformylating oligomers formed by reacting propylene and/or butylene on ZSM-23 catalyst, and then ethoxylating or esterifying the same.
CONSTITUTION: Oligomers having the formula (CnH2n)m (n is 3,4; 1<m≤10) is formed by reacting propylene and/or butylene on ZSM-23 catalyst, and the oligomer is hydroformylated on a catalyst composed of phosphine ligand, at less than 135°C to form a 10-16C saturated alcohol. Then the saturated alcohol is ethoxylated or esterified, or further sulfonated to form a saturated alcohol derivative. As the phosphine ligand, 9-phenyl-9-phosphabicyclo [4,2,1]nonane or the like is used, and the hydroformylation process is performed while inhibiting the formation of paraffin. The above-mentioned derivative can be used as detergents, lubricants, plasticizers and the like.
