Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shear-thinning water-base ballpoint which is adaptable to various colorants and gives colorful written lines.
SOLUTION: A process is provided for preparing a shear-thinning ink which comprises 1-35wt.% colorant, 2-35wt.% water-sol. polar solvent, 1-30wt.% nonionic surfactant having an HLB of 8-12, and the rest being water and necessary additives and has a viscosity (with an EM-type rotational viscometer at a revolution of 100rpm at 25°C) of 25-160MPa.s and a shear-thinning index of 0.1-0.6 and in which a phase wherein the surfactant is dispersed as fine particles and a phase wherein the surfactant is molecularly dissolved exist in a state of a mixture. An ink 6 and a ballpoint pen 1 using the ink are also provided.
