Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a process for preparing tert-butyl alcohol from tert-butyl hydroperoxide at a high conversion rate and a high selectivity.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided a process for preparing tert-butyl alcohol by contacting a feedstock comprising a solvent solution of tert-butyl hydroperoxide with a hydroperoxide decomposition catalyst thereby decomposing tert-butyl hydroperoxide, characterized in that the hydroperoxide decomposition catalyst is a mixture of palladium and gold in the ratio of 0.01-1 part of gold per part of palladium.
