PURPOSE: To obtain a graft vinyl chloride copolymer having improved weather resistance, impact resistance, and flow properties, by grafting an alkyl acrylate and/ or an alkyl methacrylate in the presence of a chain transfer agent onto vinyl choride rein.
CONSTITUTION: A) 0.1W30 parts by wt. of an alkyl acrylate (e.g., ethyl acrylate) and/or an alkyl methacylate (ethyl methacrylate) are grafted onto B)100 parts by wt. of vinyl chloride resin in the presence of C) 0.01W1.0 parts by wt. of a polymerization initiator (e.g., azobisisobutyronitrile) and D) 0.001W10 parts by wt. of a chain transfer agent (e.g., 2-mercaproethanol) in a suspension state. Water in an amount to give a weight ratio of vinyl chlofide resin to water of 1:1W1:5 is added to a reaction mixture, and 0.01W1.0 parts by wt. of a dispersant (e.g., plyvinyl alcohol) per 100 parts by wt. of water is also added. The graft copolymerization is carried out at 30W100°C for 2W15 hours. This invention provides a high degree of conversion of 95W97%.
