PURPOSE: To provide the subject compound in a high yield by reacting acrylic acid with a zinc compound in an organic acid, adding a higher fatty acid to the reaction product under heating, drying the mixture and further adding the higher fatty acid or a zinc salt thereof to the dried mixture.
CONSTITUTION: Acrylic acid is reacted with a zinc compound in an organic solvent and the reaction product is mixed with a higher fatty acid (e.g. stearic acid) and dried to give a zinc acrylate. The prepared zinc acrylate is mixed with the higher fatty acid or a zinc salt thereof to provide a non-coagulating zinc acrylate. The method permits to readily recover the reaction solvent and synthesize the zinc acrylate in a high yield. The non-coagulating zinc acrylate exhibits excellent high dispersibility and gives golf balls having excellent vulcanization physical properties.
