This press device in a paper machine has a profile roll 11 having two rooms 15a and 15b separated by sealing devices 14 and 16 in the periphery direction by arranging a sleeve 13 on the outer periphery of an axis 12 fixedly installed so that oil 31 may be supplied to the two rooms 15a and 15b. Large diameter press rolls 9 and 10 are arranged in the upper and lower both sides of the profile roll 11 so as to be piled up. The press rolls 9 and 10 are arranged as changeable rolls installed so as to change the positions against the profile role 11 so that the nip pressure may be heightened. When the pressure of the oil introduced to the rooms 15a and 15b of the profile roll 11 is heightened, the profile roll is deformed to have a crown shape and thereby the nipping pressure can be more increased. When the temperature of the oil 31 in the rooms 15a and 15b is heightened, the viscosity of water in the wet paper 8 can be heightened set to high.
