PURPOSE: To continuously form many ultra-precision optical parts without any misalignment of the axial centers of the upper and lower surfaces by one pressing by boring a material feed port and a press-formed article discharge port in the side surface of a drum die and incorporating the upper and lower die holders engaged with the upper and lower dies freely slidingly into the drum die.
CONSTITUTION: A heated material 2 is vacuum-sucked by a material feeder 7, the lower die is pushed up by an oil press through a die pushing rod, hence a pump is stopped, a gas is introduced, and the material 2 is supplied to the lower die. The lower die holder 6 is lowered, and the feeder 7 is moved backward. A heater 9 is then lowered to heat the die and material 2. When the material is heated to a specified temp., the lower die holder 6 is again raised, the material 2 is compressed and clamped, and a glass lens is formed between the upper and lower dies. The heater 9 is raised when forming is finished, a cooling plate is moved forward and brought into contact with the drum die, and the lens is cooled.
