In the press forming apparatus, a heated metallic plate (11) is subjected to a forming stage, a mechanical working stage and a cooling stage using a plurality of die units including an upper die and a lower die. The press forming apparatus comprises: a plurality of the die units (1, 2) which are arranged on a first transfer path where the metallic plate is conveyed, and successively perform the forming stage and the mechanical working stage; a plurality of die units (3) for cooling, which are abutted against the metallic plate obtained by the forming stage and the mechanical working stage by the plurality of the die units for working, and perform a cooling stage respectively; and a supporting unit which supports the plurality of the die units for cooling, and transfers the metallic plate on a second transfer path different from the first transfer path by each die unit for cooling.
