To provide a press system including a plurality of press devices, and a transferring device for a pressed product which runs on a running path, and is controlled to stop at the objective press device, wherein a position detection mechanism used for the control of the transferring device therein is made the one which can cope with a long term use, and satisfies the requirement of detection precision, and in which installation and setting are made relatively simple, and to provide a method for controlling the press system.

The press system 11 includes: the press devices 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16; and a transferring device 21 for a pressed product running on a running path 18, and is controlled to stop at the objective press device Pn. In the press system 11, either the scales 23 of a straight line displacement sensor 22 or sensor parts 25 are individually separately provided to the sides of the press devices 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, and to the side of the transferring device 21, the others of the scales 23 of the straight line displacement sensor 22 or the sensor parts 25 are provided.
