Abstract:
To provide a system and method for achieving a seal which balances the pressure between elements having relative motion, including axial motion.
This pressure balance seal 110 includes a sealing surface 116 facing an inward radial direction, and a stator interface having at least one surface interfacing with a stator. The pressure balance seal 110 further includes a friction reduction feature. The friction reduction feature includes a cavity on the sealing surface 116. The cavity is configured to receive a fluid such that a force acting on the pressure balance seal 110 is counterbalanced by a force generated by the pressure of the fluid.
