To make the delivery pressure of a fuel pump variable in multimodes in response to engine revolutions in such a way that its delivery pressure (injection pressure) is enhanced in a range of high engine revolutions and the like, and let the aforesaid performance be adjusted to the required characteristics of an engine, and thereby contribute toward the enhancement of engine output and the improvement of fuel consumption and exhaust gas characteristics.
It is noted that pressure adjusting springs should be increased in number, namely, the control valve is provided with a pressure adjusting valve body 19 which is lifted up from a seat part (valve seat member 18) upon receiving fuel pressure, and with pressure adjusting springs energizing the pressure adjusting valve body 19 in the seating direction, and in this case, a plurality of the pressure adjusting springs (a first pressure adjusting spring 13 and a second pressure adjusting spring 32) are thereby provided.
